shifter cable

Discussion in 'V-8 Buick Powered Regals' started by andrewblaylock, Jul 5, 2008.

  1. i have been working on a BBC swap into my 1985 t-type, and i cannot find a shifter cable that will work with the factory floor shifter to a 700r4, and when i try to buy a factory cable i dont even get the same one as the one i pulled out of the car, that one would work if didnt mess it up, all of the ones i get from parts stores anr exactly 1 inch shorter on the shank that goes to the shifter, does anyone know where to get a factory cable that is correct, or has anyone fought this problem to

    thanks alot

I'm just about to run into this problem as well...

I just bought a floor shifter for my 83 regal wagon. It came stock with and still has a th350 in it, so I'm guessing a stock cable out of a 83-85 t-type/monte SS will work?

any luck with autozone or pepboys?

Im just guessing but i would try a late 80s early 90s camaro which ran a 700r trans may have what you need and if you check a boneyard near you can prob get all the correct linkages

Not sure on that one.. The drive shaft for the 700 and 200 are different. Can you rebuild or run the 2004r? Art Carr has an awesome set up for the 2004r that will work good.. The cable and link should be the same for the 200 and the 700

    try

  6. thanks for all the input, I ended up retro fitting everything and installing a Morse cable into it and it works nice, everytime i would try to get a cable at an auto parts store it wouldn't even be the same as the original that came in the car, the shank on the shifter end was always 1 inch shorter, and sometimes the eyelets wouldn't be the same, this was a big hassle, even more so than the 454 swap, but its all worth it in the end
