My '71 GS has disc brakes(the factory GM setup) and to be truthful, even though they have been totally rebuilt, they are less than stellar.I have been using "standard" NAPA pads up front.I just bought some semi-metallics from my brother. They are new ,are NAPA 's brand and have been laying around for a few years. They look impressive. As I won't be getting the old beast out for at least 8-10 weeks, can anyone give me their experience with any semi-metallics? I am sure that repeated stops from 70 mph would see a great improvement, but what about everyday use? Any down side such as noise until hot, etc.? My 10 inches of vacuum also doesn't help my situation-less effective booster function. Thanks, Rod
I did a bunch of testing that's included several brake pads, rubber and braided lines, stock to slotted and cross-drilled rotors to try and stop my 2 tons of fun. From the testing I've done and my experience, I would go with the newer ceramic pads. They provide less noise, less dust, and stop just as well as semi-metallic pads.
