A fellow member backed out of a listed parts sale after two promises. Is this on the "tacky" side, or am I just too picky...? Should I leave appropriate feedback...?

Hmmmmmmmmm, its a tough call. My opinion? No money lost, so just let it go. If it happens some other day with the same guy, it might be worth a post. But even then I wouldn't call it negative. Just a "notice" of sorts.

Frank don't feel alone . I have had 2 members here back out of deals here in the last 2 weeks .

R_Davey here on V8 just got ignored also on a emblem he really wanted and was promised .

I do not know what to say about matters like this but it seems like there are a few of the same members doing it .

I have decided to keep "peace " ... I will let it be for now until we have a desinated "bad boy" section made up . And I don't see that happening .

Why do people do this ......... Who knows .

    My 2 cents .

Comes down to being a man/woman of your word. "I'll take it" or "It's yours" means just that.

I bought an ignition setup here and the very next day a NIB unit came up for $50 cheaper. As much of a cheapo as I am, I kept my word and bought the more expensive used one. You reap what you sow.

I have mixed feelings on it...

A seller backing out is odd. Was there a reason given for backing out? Is he fishing for a better offer?

I would think a buyer backing out would be more common.

On one hand, I feel the same as Adam ... "I'll take it" and "It's yours" should be taken as "done deals".

But then on the other hand.... since no money has been gained or lost... I'd almost want to let it go and move on.

But then ont he other hand (yes.. I have 3 hands) :pp .... Unless theres a good reason for backing out of a deal, I'd be tempted to post about it.

I have only sold a few parts so far that I had to ship. Usually I ask the buyer to send an email when he mails the check, and likewise I email him when I ship his item. I think that is only good business etiquette and it helps prevent leaving someone "hanging".

This is a very busy website, and it is very easy to miss someone's post unless you check in every day and take a look.

Frank, if this guy changed his mind about wanting to sell, he should have told you instead of just blowing you off.:bglasses:

  9. My personal view is that negative comments here are best reserved for transactions in which there was an actual loss suffered by the buyer or seller. I've had a buyer agree to a purchase(shipping only cost mind you, free parts) state that money was being sent, later said, oops, I thought "someone else" mailed it to you, and then said he would send it himself. Weeks later still no payment. And it was his "wanted ad" in the first place. I think the point is made by posting a few times on the original thread, asking if payment has been mailed, as I haven't received it yet. Other members read it, and get the idea...

I've had a few board members promise me a part in the Pay if Forward section and not follow through. It's blatently obvious that they decided to give or sell it to someone else. Hard to not take it personal even though I've lost nothing.

  11. I certainly agree with you, that's inexcusable behavior. :spank:

    unfortunately.........

    Unfortunately,

It is the norm for some people not to keep their word anymore. I usually am amazed by those that do. This is sad....I never used to be that way, but I also think that the internet has assisted in fueling this attitude. When someone doesn't have to look you in the eye, it's simpler for them to just turn a deaf ear toward you and not keep their word, or blatently misrepresent something.

Not that it really bothers me, but I recently offered brochures to members here online. I made it a voluntary payment, of whatever amount they wanted to send. Granted, I have almost broken even on them, and not that I expected to make a profit, (that is not what this was all about) it amazed me that of the 31 brochures I sent out.....I received payment for only 17 of them, and one more promise of payment. The earliest payments received were very generous, and they helped to offset the cost of the others. Not a big deal to me. This helps everybody out.

There is my $02.5 whether you wanted it or not.........
