with the nats coming up next week, we need to think about securing our cars at the motels and all the time really.

i dont like to post this on the net, but the thieves already know these things so we might as well think about it. a few years back a bunch of high dollar mopars were being stolen at shows, homes, and storage areas, and they were finally discovered at a home in southern MD. these guys had a rap sheet as long as your arm but the courts basically just gave them a slap on the wrist. as i recall, the only reason these guys got caught was the brother of an owner or someone just happened to drive past the house and saw one of these cars sitting there. when the cops went in, they found a bunch of stolen high point mopar muscle cars being parted out.

these are some things i learned about from reading in mopar collectors guide. you think a club type device will help ? not really, they carry a hacksaw, and they wont hesitate to cut your steering wheel. you think blocking it in with another vehicle at each end will help ? no ! , one car was parked in by other cars at each end while it sat in the motel parking lot one night, and the jerks just jacked it up, got it onto some rollers, and slid it sideways until they could take it away. the owner never knew what hit him.

i dont have the answer, i just want everyone to be extra careful when they take out thier cars. with the blue one on ebay now at $ 105,000.00 the thieves will take note.

It's like I've always said, "Lock only keep honest people honest," No matter what you do, if they want your car, they WILL get it. If you have ever talked to a Harley owner there is a saying, and one that I try to live by as much as possible, "If I can't see it, I'm too far away,"

I have been taking street rods to overnight car shows for 20+ years. I don't trailer so they are always at risk of being stolen. Thats a chance that I am willing to take to enjoy the driving of my cars. For me something is lost when I am driving my new truck towing my cool car.
My cars are all well insured and if one gets stolen I guess I'll face that then. So far hasn't happened
Next summer I am planning on taking a 5 week vacation with the Buick with 4 other couples and drive across a portion of the US and up into Canada.
Bottom line is that if a thief wants your car, he will get it. Trailer, club, fuel cut off, Lojak, etc., etc. may slow him down but he can still get it.
Lifes short, enjoy the ride. Drive your hot rods

i believe it was last year in london ontario , where the truck & hot rod show was being held . i know of two trucks that were stolen from motel parking lots , and never recovered . if a thief wants your vehicle badly enough , he will , one way or another , steel it , unless u can post an armed sniper in a nearby tree to guard your vehicles .

If you do take preventive measures, you can stop or slow done a thief from taking your vehicle. Alarm systems do work, even the cheapest kind. For me, if I hear an alarm, I go and look especially if my car is in a location other than home. Another system is the LoJack. LoJack unit is a small transmitter that is activated by a routine police theft report. The LoJack signal can also be monitored by police. This system is not cheap but is another good preventive measure. I like to use is the car cover. Get a good car cover that you can lock. With the use of the car cover and the alarm system, chances are your car won't be going anywhere.

Im sure that 30 or so people / cars could throw a few bucks in a hat and come up with enough to pay a licensed security guard to patrol the parking lot overnite ??

    GPS Anyone ?

I'm suprised more people aren't using GPS tracking systems. It's worth the money, if your car does get stolen the police or whoever has a detailed location to get your car back. A tracking system's also a lot cheaper than a grill :Brow: . Visit www.boomerangtracking.com Boomerang Tracking system

One of the vendors that sells GN stuff hires one every year at BG already so that mey be an option tag on to that officer for more security.
