I have seen this mentioned here, that there are VINs stamped in the cars in unlikely places to aid the police in determining stolen vehicles. For instance, I know there is one under the cowl screen on a 69 Camaro. Does anyone know if there are, and where, on a 66 Skylark? I need to know ASAP.
I am thinking of driving five hours to look at this car

The cowl tag is missing, and there is no picture of the VIN. I would feel much better if I knew where to find one of the hidden numbers to compare with the door jamb plate, to make sure it is a GS.

That's a great looking car Mike, and a great price!:TU:
I wouldn't worry too much about it being a real GS or not. It obviously has some changes, like the non-original engine, 65 bucket seats, upgraded brakes, and much of the front end being painted body color...which actually looks very nice. Someone did a great job on that car, and it's a great value for the price. (If it's as nice as it looks in the pics).

The only VIN stampings I know of are on the frame. I'll send you a PM with details.

    P.S. it's on Craigslist for $15.9k http://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/871395873.html

I would highly recomend that if you are serious about this car you have a contingency that the car pass a state patrol VIN inspection. It is a HUGE red flag if any VIN's are missing/altered. And the troopers will check the hidden VIN's. This should only be $50 or so which is super cheap insurance to ensure the vehicles identity and true VIN with options.
