A while ago I posted the need for soem seat belts...

Well, I never ended up buying any (even though a couple of people stepped forward, and I thank them for that). George (Gsstage1) on this board suggested that I pop them apart and clean them...

I tried doing so and wasn't successful. Anyone have any tips?

    Thanks

You are trying to repaint the black buckles? Easy job but need to prep. it right.
I repainted a set before I found a deluxe set. You would be surprised how nice they can turn out.
What colour belts do you have? I have a complete set in green from a '72. Black buckles repainted. Small buckles for the front two lap blts are still the deluxe chrome.
I'll sell the repainted buckles but the belts go with them. $30.00 + shipping.
    I'm in Far East Canada.

Hi Steve, I believe you were the one saying that you had some for sale.

Mine are dark green with (I believe) green buckles. The problem is, the passenger lap buckle has rusted to the point where it wont move on the belt itself.

I am in the eastern US... do you know how shipping works between the US and canada? $30 is pleanty reasonable.

    Thanks.

    Eric,
Send me a PM with your address & I'll get them out.The buckles are black except chrome for the two front lap belts. The two chrome are smaller. These are from a '72.
Try yours again though before I ship. The pic shows where to insert a small screw driver to get the buckles apart. Gently pry each side. The black is getting a little beat up & I can give them another coat if you wish.

    Thanks Steve,
I'll give them a try tomorrow afternoon and if I can't get them apart I'll send you a PM. Im not going for correctness with this car (yet, anyway), so Im not really concerned whether they are 72 or 70 (IIRC there is a difference).

Do I need to take the GM button off before I can get the pieces apart?

I had planned on popping them apart then taking a wire wheel and some cast iron paint to the little "stick" part, but last time I tried I couldnt get them to come apart

Like I said, I'll give it a shot tomorrow afternoon and let you know. Thanks :TU:

GM Button is only accessable once the cover is removed. Pay close attention to how these come apart. They will go back together easily but only one way.

    Lee,
These are from a '72, I took the deluxe buckle covers for my '71. At the time I didn't realize that deluxe belts had the smaller set for the front laps. Excellent condition but could use a bit of cleaning. Everything you see is a complete set, less the anchor bolts, with minor differences for the buckles.
$30.00 + shipping, send to the V8 Board.

    seat belt buckle resto

I don't know if you have ever heard of the "Corvette Restorer" magazine published by NCRS, but the newest issue (vol.33, #1) has a detailed restoration article on how to dismantle, restore and reassemble GM seatbelts. If you know somebody that belongs to NCRS (National Corvette Restoration Society) then they would have the issue. If you do not know anybody but you or anybody else would like to see the article then I can copy it (if legal) and send it to you. I probably should not post it for fear of some copyright infringement. Dennis

    Lee,
Everything you see there, that's green, except the generator parts scattered on the table.
2 retractors, 2 vinyl boots for the floor, 2 shoulder belts, 1 middle seat front set, 2 front lap set-up for outside position. 3 rear lap belt set-up.
I'll get it out & advise on shipping costs. Send me a PM with your address.
I think you can send funds to Jim W. & he will take care of it.
I'll confirm & let you know.
