I'm still running the stock tranny in my '68 Riv w/ the 430, and need to replace the front main seal btwn torque converter & rest of the trans. I'm having trouble finding a replacement seal, though. Anybody know where to find one in southern California? Or where I could order one from?

The tranny was sitting on blocks under the car while my engine's in the shop, but my GENIUS brother hit my car & knocked the blocks from under the tranny pan to under the torque converter...hopefully the main seal's the ONLY thing that got screwed up!

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

Contact Autozone or any trans shop in your area. They will have one.

    Kristy,
It's called a transmission front pump seal. Tell them it's for a Turbo-Hydramatic 400 transmission out of a 68 Riviera. The seal should be the same for most if not all 400 transmissions. You should be able to pick it up at ANY parts store.

IS it the front pump seal? I was under the impression that there are a shaft seal and a pump seal, two different things...if it is indeed the pump seal that I need, I know I can pick one up at PepBoys...I didn't think that was the part I actually wanted, though!

All I know is that the torque converter got tweaked & I need to replace the seal behind it to prevent potential leaks. Front pump seal, huh?

Front pump to converter seal, front pump seal, or just plain front transmission seal. The front pump is directly behind the converter. The seal, seals the input shaft to the converter. Available anywhere I should think, and easy to install with the trans out of the car. Just install it evenly.

I see National oil seal part # 6712NA in my parts search

Thanks, Larry! Sounds like it was my denial that it was the pump seal that was keeping me from finding one!
