Is this a made part, or do you just put some open cell foam tape on it?

Any recommendations on a foam tape that wont fall apart in a couple years?

I am not an expert, but I have never seen any kind of sealant around the defrost ducts. They have the metal tabs that just bend and sealed in plastic to the top of the dashboard, and that’s all you get. It works. Don’t mess up what works.

You going to be making out in the back seat at the drive-in next winter? Don't worry about it!

Reading the chassis manual, it says that if there is insufficient flow or leaking badly to seal it with body sealer.

My 71 lark defroster didn't do much when I first bought the car a few years back. After I found my heater core was plugged up with crud from leaking , I changed it and cleaned up the air handling system pieces around it and everything is now back as it was designed 50 years ago.... not perfect but certainly night and day difference. Sometimes these end result issues are due to a "build up" of problems that slowly occur over the years; out of sight, out of mind! Good luck!

Is this the seal for the vent ball you're asking about? My vent balls won't hold their position will rotate to the closed position, the vent ball seals need replacing. I THINK this vent is used on AC cars only, the one shown below is from my 67.

I haven't tried it, but below is a ball vent seal for a 1966 - 67 Chevelle, it appears that it would fit my 67 vent and is available from Year One #JJ433. It's currently on sale at Year One for $7 so if it doesn't work it's not a bank buster. I bet shipping costs more than the seals do.
I'd be surprised if the other repo stores such as OPGI don't carry a similar reproduction part.

No, that is for the AC cars and I don't have that. I was just thinking up on the metal dash where the vents direct the defroster to the window. The plastic ducting just pushes up under the top of the dash. No seal, nothing I guess. I assumed there was something there.
