Funny you mention that - I was looking at a CNC machine for sale years ago at a pretty decent size production machining facility in Daytona Beach FL which seemed like an odd location. All Mazak machines, which are high end, & all they did was plastic which is why I was interested, figuring the machine probably never saw any real abuse.
Everyone that I know in that trade has learned to just do everything themself and it gets done when they get it done. They try and hire work and all have the same result.
Daytona is a party destination LOLOL, either drinking, drunk, or hung over, OR over dose, so nobody sober enough to use the CNC
Makes me wonder what the population on earth would dwindle too if all the dead beats were gone, and just solid, hard working, and intelligent people existed?????
Mark, There are fewer of us everyday. My 83-year old mother would run circles around most of these modern adults. She tells me I’m fighting a losing battle.
Ain’t that the truth! I remember when seniors would work at McDonalds to supplement their SS checks, they moved WAAAAAAAY faster than the teens did!
I got to make a lot less after being shoved out the door in 2008 and not because I knew what I was doing it was because of stupid crap. Company now out of business ha ha good for them. It took all of 10+ years to gain my money back, doing a lot better now had at least 10 different jobs since then I think I broke a record lol Still a damn printer though 40+ So if we can't get any CNC Buick Alums for the 350 and we all know the price is going to be higher next time, how is anybody going to justify putting that much money into a set of heads. We talking this could be a 4-5 grand add on with CNC or porting mods. Are you guys ready to spend that kind of money on a set of alum heads? Or would the 455 come into play here...
Demko, there is nobody to take my place either when I retire and technically that is September. I know every little trick to make a printing press run. What about you who wants to do the kind of auto body work that you have done in past. I should get you to fix my paint around vinyl roof bubbled up and rusted rest of car is good only around roof and trim in back
I got a few more years yet before I retire, if I ever retire, HAHA. Yep typical rot areas on a vinyl top car, steel tops do it too it just takes longer. I’d love to do side work but I don’t have the space. Only option is to bring it to my work when you’re ready. I still gotta get over to you place and meet you damnit!
Since the cost of aluminum heads for the 350 are going up, I don’t see too many people stepping up, too cost prohibitive, at least for me, that’s why I’m ruining a set of irons I hope the classic car hobby soldiers on, it would be a shame all these cool cars/engines just sitting unfinished ‘cause there’s no interest anymore
The skid of heads is still there however they don’t have anyone to machine them. I’m not taking about the valve jobs I’m talking about the basic machining of the decks, intake and exhaust mating surfaces and likely threading the bolt holes and things like that. I’m sure it’s not crazy complicated but they don’t have the people to do the work. I talked to Tim about it yesterday, he said they have no estimate for when they will have heads to sell. No they are going on Brian Pyres’ twin turbo EFI engine. He was able to find a set of bare casting heads from an estate sale of Dan Wilson , as TA hasn’t sold any heads in a long time and finishline didn’t have any either. I am curious how Anthony Mackleys 630 Hp procharged 350 is running since they added the TA heads. I’m sure they were CNC ported by Scotty as well. Will have to call them, they aren’t on v8.
I’d be interested in an un-machined pair or raw bricks. It would allow me to move and tweak some things.
