A couple Saturdays back I took Scat to the track for some T and T with a new E 85 fuel system. I figured two time trials and lose first round then load up since I was trying to dial in the carb. Well, Scat went 7 rounds in Top eliminator and won the event. Paid for the new carb.:Brow: Scat ran the # all day, never varying by more than .01-.015, the E 85 isn't affected by weather as race fuel is, and its 1/4th the cost. the aging driver even did his job, worst light was .030 which normally put you on the trailer in this class, fortunately the rail got the red bulb in the semi's and I moved up. In the finals we had a .510 light and a 10.456 on a 10.45 dial. The E 85 made the car even more consistent. the race was decided by .007 seconds, the other driver was tough. Some other thoughts: Speaking of rails, we raced 2 rails and a roadster that night, fast cars going 160mph plus. I like running them, they normally "hold" a couple hundredths and its hard to judge the stripe when chasing down a car going only 122mph. If you hit the tree and run close to the #, which Scat does, they get pushed out. thats one reason my son Doug, Painekiller , and I always slow our cars down enough to be the slowest car in the class, plus you get the clean tree. I always say. Its more fun to go slow and go rounds rather than fast and be on the trailer. gary
You are like wine, getting better with age :TU: I try to learn from you and not getting too excited just to go faster and faster.
Congrats Gary, and that's good to hear on the E-85. Whose carb are you running? When I make my return to the bracket wars in 2017 I plan on that fuel system, in a 2200 lbs 70 GS that will eventually run mid nines with the bracket motor, but I expect to slow it down like you to get that clean tree. That is how I had my best success in the past. JW
jim I'm running a Sullens carb. Just about right on out of the box, only made 1 jet change. also, picked up a easy tenth under same DA and 60'. Added bonus is it runs cooler. Only downside was I got 1 run per gallon with E85 vs 1 1/2 runs per gallon with race fuel, but at $1,98/gal vs $9.00/gal its a no brainer. gary
Saw your post, looks like the converter is working. The 60' was slow on a unprepped track, with a low 1.4 you'll be 10.3's. A well prepped track you'll see it. good job. gary
Good work Gary! I ran Super Pro one year without a box in a 12.80 car. I'd cut my .020 or.040 light and watch the rails run out or give up the finish line and qualified for the bracket finals. One lady came over and accused me of cheating after beating her husband for like the third time in a month. I laughed and said "that's funny to accuse me of cheating when you/he are the one with the delay box".
What was done to the fuel system and engine to run E85 and what compression can it handle in a street GS?
