I've got my 89 F150 posted for sale on a few web boards, and for the most part, have received only a few emails that were just blatantly obvious scam attempts. The latest one had me thinking for a moment that it might be legit though...

    His first email:

So I emailed 4 pictures, and stated that I had lowered my price to $2750. I told him he would have to arrange transportation himself.

    He replies:

Now it's starting to smell. When I declined to provide bank info, he replied:

That basically ended the emails a couple days ago. Scam all the way? :puzzled:

Common bank account scam. Tell him to send a postal money order, they can be tracked, etc, if he says no, you'll know for sure.

    It looks "lovely"???

Nobody buying a truck uses that word. That should have been the tip-off... :Brow:

Go talk to your bank and ask them how to transfer money without getting scamed. They should be up on the latest ones.

I am a police officer in New Jersey. Let me tell you that in no way should you give out your bank info to anyone like that over the internet, phone etc.... Don't become a victim!!!! Sometimes when we are selling/buying things, we tend to let our guard down a little because we want that truck to sell, or we really want to buy that item. If it looks like a scam, smells like a scam, then you can pretty much believe it is a scam. I see this type of thing everyday. As one of the previous replies stated, try a US Postal money order, it's just not worth the risk!

Absolutely a scammer, and a stupid one, at that. I agree with turning him in. They can track the email. Maybe they would even do a 'sting' with a phony account.

    Basta**s. :blast:

hahah i like how he says he cant send a check to a stranger but he has the nerve to ask for a strangers bank account info.

and i would never sell anything to someone that uses the term "lovely". unless it was a really hot chick :TU:

Yeah, there was no way he was going to get any bank info from me. This one sounded unusual, since the majority of these scam buying offers sound like they are typed by someone with almost no command of the English language. After his email asking for account info, I simply replied back
. Never thought I would actually get another reply after that. Haven't heard from him for 3 days, so I think he's figured it out.

I really need to take out a local sale ad one of these days....

I'v got a separate bank account I use for transfers only. It's a spin-off of my business account, but it has it's own account # that in no way relates to, or can be traced back to my other account at the bank.

My bank manager actually set it up for me. I only keep about $10 in it, and it's free since it's a spin-off account.

Worth considering if you do transfers more than a couple times a year.
