I'm still knew at this and am trying find out how to confirm a "#s matching" car. Any rock soild info would be of great help. I have a 1972 GS455 conv. and am trying to confirm the vital #s on the block/heads and tranny. I've been told that a set of #s on the block will match the VIN. Is this true? and that there would also be some serial #s. Also, where are these numbers to be found? ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Aaron, and welcome!

This link should get you started -
    http://www.buicks.net/shop/reference/engine_ident_where.html

Engine VIN - front of the block, drivers side, below the head.
Motor Code - stamped between the #5 and #7 plugs, on the surface of the block, below the head.

Transmission VIN - Drivers side, just above the pan, towards the rear of the tran.
Transmission code - on a small tag on the passenger side.

    Head castings?

The serial number will be a 4, followed by the last 8 of your VIN.

    Any pictures :Brow:

WOW!!! Finally, someone who knows what what they're talking about. I will have pics real soon. I just needed to know the facts on the numbers before I list it on the market. I didn't know where or how to find out. Hopefully I'll have confirmation soon enough and pics to show.

What a great help. I'll keep you posted!
