Tried to remove the Shocks tonight. When I picked them up I bought a can of PB just incase. HA! these puppies wont move at all. I sprayed, tapped, tried, sprayed, tapped, tried... They be stuck! I'm a big guy and know how to hold a wrench.

Any ideas? Is there a better product than PB? Should I just cut them off?

I would carefully cut them off.

Hey Mike, soak 'em a few days in PB, hose 'em down twice a day. I think it needs time to penetrate. I'm dissasembling a parts car right now and between PB and a breaker bar (old torque wrench) even the exhaust manifold bolts came off without so much as a CRACK...... a piece of pipe slid over your 1/2" socket handle makes a good breaker bar too......

Nice car BTW.... good luck with the bolts.....

I'm guessing you're referring to the top bolt on front shocks.....they seem to cause alot of grief.

Since the shocks are junk anyways, don't bother trying to get the nut off the shock. Just put a deep well socket on a long extension, put it over the rusted nut/stud and pry it back and forth. You should be able to snap it off in no time!! :TU:

I had the same problem, I slipped some vise grip pliers between the springs to hold the shaft and got the nuts off that way.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm adding PB to all the front end nuts every day and hope that will make next weekend's job a bit easier. for the shocks I've got to try breaking them off. I like to break things :) I'll be gental with the rest of the job.

When I put it back together should I grease the threads? Back in my biking days every thread was greased. I don't know if the same holds true with cars.
