On 69 Skylark, I couldn't figure out why it has such a small battery installed until I moved it a little and saw a large hole underneath, only has half the metal under the battery still there. Is the section under the battery part of the inner wheelhouse or is it a separate piece, and how do you replace that section? Is there an available replacement piece?
Well, it's actually part of the radiator core support. Mike Garrison "Racebuicks" on the board, sells a repair kit for the 68/69 cars.
OK, I looked more carefully and the hole is not under the battery but more like closer to the pass. side inner fenderwell. I think it may actually be the front part of the fenderwell. Is there a replacement inner fenderwell available thru Yearone, etc.?
The first thing to go is the battary tray .Than the wheel well than the Radiator core support . If the core isnt totally shot were the rubber mount bushing has collapsed you can probably get away with just the Wheel well patch . Theres no specific 68/9 patch but 70-2 works just fine and once this is all welded up and the battary in place no one will ever know. Most Muscle car supply joints carry the patchs .May I suggest you try a Buick friendly supplier like Poston .
Is this the part under the battery? http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/...8&hid=220AC58143&cat=2&trk=12&searchid=262571 Also, is an "inner fender" the reference to the front, and "inner wheelhouse" refer to the back? It really doesn't say on the year one website.
Welcome to the board and congrats on buying a Buick!!! yes, that is the front of the inner fender- passenger side. Inner wheelhouse means the rear wheelhouse that you see in the trunk. The outer wheelhouse is the side that almost touches the quarter panel... And is usually ALWAYS rotted out on 68-69 Buicks... They reproduce the INNER wheelhouse, NOT the outers... Post pics of the 'Lark when you can!
Different names for same thing wheel well ,fender liner ,wheel house ,fender apron, skirt etc. just make sure it for the front right side . Battary tray is bolted into fender well and rad support
