Some of you may remember the story of the rolled over '68 Hurst Oldsmobile factory drag car that Kevin S.purchased a while back... 'Original Thread' ...Well I had watched that car even before Kevin had bought it and then after following another thread right here on this board, I was able to buy the car from Kevin spring of 2005.

The car was not hurt anywhere near as bad as it looked in the pictures [not sure if I really mean that] I'd rather fix a dent than rust I guess... Nothing a new roof, door and a nose couldn't fix!

Anyway finally clearing a spot in the shop, the work started on the car two weeks ago.

60 hours later, ALL the collision work is done. We've done everything in our power to save/straighten as much of the original sheetmetal as possible. At this point it's just 'normal' paint and detail from here.

Cool Avatar. I assume you got that plate? Superb.

I'll be amazed if that car ever goes back together the right way. The door jambs should have been fixtured before they chopped the top off it. Convertibles have boxed frames and considerably mor strength in the rocker area to keep their body rigidity, but Hardtops get it through the top structure. Post cars are even more rigid than that. Mega buck car like this should have had the body removed from the frame and fixtured in a rotisserie or on a body plate before it was cut up. Hope they do follow through and get this car back right. But after seeing it started like this, I wouldn't touch it with a 20 foot pole.

Hi Dave,If I was a betting man I would say the car was fixed right;if you look in the photo you will see the car was on a frame rack and clamped down with rocker clamps and all this while still mounted on the cars frame as well. This said I don't think cutting the roof off allowed the body to move around buthad those steps not been taken and car was mounted on a rottisie the body would have had to have a cage or bracing welded in pior to cutting roof off for sure as it would be very flexible.

Gotcha Rusty. Should have looked closer. Glad a car like this is being done right, it deserves it.

    Thanks.
