425 ci Nailhead rescued from 20yr storage, now running.
Not bad idle, but rev up and LHD rattles.
Chased up vacuum leaks, some improvement, but still rough at higher rpm.
Any hints on how to fix?

Mine has a similar story. Sat in a garage for 22 years

The 65 Riv was last registered in 1983 and hardly ever started since. After working on it off and on for a year it is nearly right.
Looks OK but paint and some chrome faulty. Next jobs, radio antenna short circuit and possibly jammed, same story for headlight visor motor. Tail and turn indicator lights and wiring in hand, bumper is loosened and about to be taken off so I can get to tail lights etc. BTW car is RHD and in Australia.

Be sure the ignition is new: plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points/condensor, coil(?)...check compression while plugs are out. Then look at things like sticking valves, carb...

Coil, HT leads & plugs all new, distributor checked ok, compression test done. Need to check for sticking valves but not sure how.

It's plain and simple time to rebuild the Carb after a good long soak in a bucket of cleaner for the job!
It's running ruff from clogged off Carb passages that can not pass the needed amount of fuel as the rpm goes up!

Could very well be the stainless plate under the carb. is rotted & letting exhaust gases into the intake manifold. Would NOT be the 1st. time this has happened.

Thanks Tom. I'm going to pull the carband that's something else to check.
