i have been looking for a 65 - 67 or a 70 skylark convertible. i am in mass. and flew out to st. louis to check out a 65 and under the spare tire it was soft. i could put a screw driver through it. i had my nephew check out a 66 special in ohio and the same thing. both cars were other wise completely solid and low miles. is this a common spot for these to go. anyone with some experiences? thanks.

Trunk pans are quarter panels are both common spots for convertible's to rust (also the front cowl by the defroster vents at the base of the windshield) as these were easy spots for water to leak onto. If the only thing wrong with the car was a little trunk rot, buy it and put in a new trunk pan and be done with it! At least you don't have to repaint the car. Even I can repaint the trunk after someone has welded in a pan.

    Yep

Between the water leaking in, and that damn rubber mat that TRAPS water (or condensation) underneath, the original trunks have almost no chance.
