    Ok guys,
What is the trick to replacing the rope seal? Have put in 2 now and both leaked. Should I be replacing the metal piece the seal sits in? Does it come as one piece?
    Thanks

If this is for a 350 than there is a rubber seal that is far superior to the rope seal. I wouldn't use the rope seal. As a matter of fact I have about 5 of them sitting on my shelf. Any one need a rope seal?

  3. see www.taperformance.com for the new neoprene seal, unless you are set on using rope. Some guys swear by rope, others swear at them... :)

Are you talking about the front seal? I picked up a rubber one as part of a gasket kit for the timing cover at my local Pep Boys. The rear ones only seem to be available from vendors like TA, Postons, etc.

Rope seals need to swell with oil to work properly. Try driving the car for a few thousand miles and see if your leak doesn't stop.

Make sure your PCV valve is working. It sounds to me like there is positive pressure in the block. The front seal doesn't often leak much oil unless something is pushing it out.
