Any racers out there that can give a newbie some advice on roll cages? Not that I'm going to get into racing, but I figure you are the right people to ask!

I just started ripping out the interior of my 66 Skylark hardtop, and it got me thinking about adding a roll cage. I like the idea of improving the structural integrity of the car in the case of a crash. Especially living in L.A. and driving on the crazy freeways here...

I like the look of the Skylark hardtop because it doesn't have a b-pillar. Here's the concern-- is there any way to build a solid roll cage without losing the hardtop look? Or does a beam generally run down where the b-pillar would be? I've heard of roll cages where the drop bars go through the package tray and are reinforced behind the rear seat. Is this structurally sound?

My idea is to keep the roll cage very concealed, so it doesn't look like a racer, and doesn't get in the way of daily driving. I've seen roll cage kits for as little as $200 for my car, but I was wondering how much a custom cage would run me? Anyone in the L.A. area that you know of that builds cages?

    Thanks!

Also, is there a procedure for adding a shoulder belt or harness to my car? With no b-pillar, it looks like there really isn't any place to attach the shoulder belt to. Could it be safely attached to a roll cage?
