Duane...You got the balls to bring it to the BPG event...I got the balls to drive it.... :3gears: :3gears: :3gears:
Duane, You should paint it in GSX stripes, slap a Buick 455 emblem on it, and enter the Super 16 at the Nats!:Brow: Dan
I wonder how much drag strips would give for an exhibition? It would be cool to see that thing go down the track. I saw the car first hand and wanted to load it up on the trailer. Cool car for sure. It all looks so simple too. Just pour some of this in one tank, and some of that in the other tank, pull the mixing valve and away you go.
Thanks. I tried to find the pics the other night but couldn't find them. What are you going to do with it?
Glen, That's cool, I have never seen either one of those pics before. The one shows Vanishing Point, which was another Rocket powered funny car. Thanks. Duane
Glad to here they are new to you. BTW your package (GS parts) are in route, hopefully they will help.
Duane..Todd Warner of ProToyz fame perhaps has an interest in this car. . .Todd and I go way back many years. I just posted him your tele and email address. I would think he'll be in touch soon. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
You might try Brent Hajek's Motorsport Museum. Im sorry I dont have the phone number but Brent and I grew up together and he collects old drag cars (mostly fords) Bob Gliden's etc. He owns a museum in Okla but I havent talked to him in years. If he is not intrested he will know who will be. Good luck
I feel very fortunate to have seen a number of rocket cars in action back in the early 70's. They ran them at the "32 Funnycar" and "Fox Hunt" events at Portland Int'l Raceway. I remember not getting any warning like with the jet cars. There's no spool-up time on the rocket...just POOF!!! and its gone! And they were loud when they hit. I recall a bunch of white steam or smoke coming out of them as they sat at the starting line. It was pretty damn cool, especially for a 4th grader :Smarty:
Duane, could you tell me who bought the car if anyone? My husband worked with Lew when the car was built and we were just wondering where the car ended up. I got to see the car in 1990 when we visited PA.
The guy who painted this car and many other dragsters, name was Bob Gerdis who's company was circus. He lived around the corner from my wife's house in Paramus, NJ. He was harassed so much by the town about painting these cars at his house, he moved the business to Vermont. He had tee shirts with ties painted on them with circus up and down the tie...
Yes “Circus” painted the car and another guy painted the eagles on the sides. I remember Lew telling me that if you were “anyone” in the Funny Car world you got your car painted by Circus. Duane
What do you want to know, How I met Lew? Stories he told me about the car, including things they did while building it? (Some of the things they did while putting it together are hilarious.) How I ended up with the car? Duane
