Rocker are shaft question

I am rebuilding my 68 350. The rocker arm shafts are goopy and I want to take them apart for cleaning. The book says to split the cap at the ends for removal. Before I do this I need to be sure I can replace them. Are they still available? Do I need to split them or is there another way?
    Any help is appreciated

To the best of my knowledge, the end caps are no longer available. So, DON'T split them.
You only need to get one end off, so carefully use a punch to knock them off. Go from one side to the other and try not to use too much of a hit.
You can clean any burrs up with a file before putting them back on. Tap them back on with a hammer until they are seated.
This has worked for me on several shafts.
    Good Luck,
    Mark
