I'm considering a rebuild kit and jumped on ebay and noticed there are a lot of carbs available for under 100 but they list different years. Being a carb rookie... would one of these work on my 71 350 skylark or do I need a 70/71 specific model. OR should I just find one of those 19.95 rebuild kits.

I have a '71 350-2. When I bought the car the carb was broken, so I rebuilt a '74 Rochester 2bbl to put on. I works just fine. RockAuto.com has carb kits for around $12.00 plus shipping. Good luck.

Are you talking about a quadrajet? I assume so. I don't think it matters one bit. Other than the location of the fuel inlet (front for buick/pontiac carbs, side inlet for Chevy versions) And unless you are looking to keep it stock, I would consider a four barrel. But that's just me.

We're talking about the old faithful Rochester 2GC two barrel, not Q-jet.

Unless the original carb is beyond repair, the best bet would be a thorough cleaning and rebuild. No reason to mess with aftermarket carbs and screwey adapter plates; the 2GC is hard to beat for what it was designed for.

If you're looking for more oomph, a swap to a factory four barrel manifold & matching quadrajet would be the next logical step.

Thanks guys for your comments. I am a sponge and am soaking all this knowledge up. I was driven by the fact that a carb rebuild is new to me and when I saw how cheap they are I was thinking about just getting a replacment. Hard to beat a 12.00 rock auto rebuild kit though. Guess I will look there.

    Ordered the kit last night.
