Hi everybody! I have a cute 1972 Airstream Argosy trailer that I would like to tow from New Jersey to North Dakota and back this summer. It weighs 4000 lbs. I heard that Roadmaster sedans and wagons made in 91-96 came with trailer towing packages. Can anyone give me any guidance on how I can tell from a VIN # how many hp a Roadmaster engine from a given year might have? And if it has the towing package, for that matter? Some used car salesman got really nasty with me and said "How do I know thees? I do not KNOW theez tings. Ask de dealercheep!" And I said, "I thought you were a dealership!" And he said, "NOOO thees is a used car lot!" and hung up. Nice, huh? If anyone has any other suggestions on particularly cool Buicks that could do the job, please offer them up. I am looking to buy a car in the $2000-4500 range in the next couple of weeks, and would rather not spend more than that for a summer car, but would consider spending more if the car is particularly unique or nice. Thank you Buick fans!
I'm not an expert, but I can tell you that finding a Roadmaster with a factory trailer package is VERY difficult. I looked for 2 years to find one (although I wanted only a wagon) and every one did NOT have the package. I met a gentleman named Sean who IS an expert with these cars and if you tow without the package, you will be replacing the transmission in short order. I was going to tow a 3500# pop-up camper and ended up buying a 2002 Bravada. They are out there, but they are hard to find.
