We have a 94 Roadmaster...a great road car for pulling our vintage airstream trailer. With the LT1 it has a great deal of power. Recently, the steering has developed the feeling it has a notch or other resistance when making moderate turns at speeds between 30 and 50. Its odd and I can't detect any other patterns.

If anyone has advice on the problem, or advice where to seek advice....either would be appreciated.

The LT1 power steering pumps are good for burning up and that is what it sounds like is happening to u'rs. I have a friend with a SS impala that has done that.

Thanks, that's a good lead. A pump would be an easier repair than other options I've feared.

check if your car has "speed sensitive power steering", if so you probably have a faulty "speed sensitive steering sensor". I had to replace that exact item on my '97 chevy Tahoe and get the same slipping sensation on gradual turns when I drive my Mom's 92 Roadmonster. It was a $40 something part for the Tahoe (wholesale)
