I am trying to swap a 3.08 open rear for 3.42 posi rearend in my 67 Riviera, and have located one from a 66 Riviera GS, and one from a 70 Riviera GS. Will one or the other of these rear axle housings bolt into my 67' without modifications? Are there any specific problem areas with the 9 3/8" rearend I should look for while I have the rearend out of the car?
I realize a gear change will mean a different speedometer gear, but are the driveshaft flange, upper & lower control arms, emergency brake cables, etc. all the same from 1966 to 1970 in the Riviera? Thanks in advance for the info.

    Axle/carrier Questions...

The Whole Rear In My 68 Is From A 66. However, You Can Swap Just The Carrier As Well (which Will Require Set Up). Driveshafts Are The Same, Etc. Go For It-nice Performance Enhancement. 66-70 ARE INTERCHANGEABLE.

The rear from my '66 had a more square pinion flange.
I think in '67 they went to the round pinion flange.
I still have the driveshaft out of my '66. I can post a pic later when I am home if you want.

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for helping to sort this out. I learned a lot from the thread you listed. It sure saved me some expensive "trial & error" lessons. Randy
