    Hi,

got some issues with my Riviera hood. I can adjust it 10 times but still the same issue.

If I close the hood on the front of the car I have to go to driver and codriver side and push it down so that it closes correctly and the position looks right. Then if I drive the hood comes up 1-2 inch again on driver/codriver side. First of all it looks crappy and second all the engine smell comes through the vent resulting that you smell a lot after driving 10 miles...

    Is this a known issue?

    Thanks,

    Max

Mine started doing that after I had removed the hood for some body work. I even replaced the hinges once. In the end After flipping the spring over it worked fine. I have no idea what flipping the spring has to do with it. Try cleaning and lubricating the hinges really well.

Great info Erik - just slot the rear hinge mounting hole to allow the hinge assy. to be mounted lower.
Unfortunately, the '68s have three hinge mounting bolts, so you may have to slot the upper centre and rear hinge mounting holes to lower the hood hinge ?
After my resto was completed, I replaced my driver side hinge assembly with a parts car hinge, to cure the problem of the rear rising hood syndrome (...driver's side only), which temporarily solved the problem.
However, lately I have noticed that the driver's side rear hood will be raised a 1/4" to a 1/2" after raising and lowering the hood, or after driving, and you must give it the 'obligatory push down' to align it with the fender.
The pivot points are all clean and lightly lubed, but that hasn't seemed to solve the problem. :Do No:

Slotting the holes did not help in my situation. I can send you the sloted hinges if ya wanna try them.

Not sure of the final "reasonably priced" solution...my brother and I machined new bushings for the bolts to clean up the slop engendered by the wear of opening the hood on my '68 Skylark a Brazilian times. Took an expert Machinist and a Millwright. Closes tight and clean, now. Your problem is caused by worn parts. If I had to charge you for what we did, since they are "one off", it would be about $500. Crazy what we do for these critters.

4 Internet Cookies for a guess where I got "Brazilian" from.

steevee. New hood hinges should fix what you repaired with the bushings should it not?

I can take my hinge and switch it with the one on the parts car and that hood will close perfect. Put the parts hinge assmb on my car and it sticks up exactly the same. Switch em back and its the same story. Another attempt at adjusting and i find it sits perfect until i push the nose down the last 1/2" to latch it and then it pops back up. No diff weather the stops are up or down. Its maddening Im starting to think it has something to do with the fender.

I know this is a pretty common problem with older cars and trucks. Saw it a lot back when I worked at a body shop before the military.

Yup. Do you have new hinges for my one year only car? That would be sweet!

    No! Good call though!!
I was just wondering is all.. I slotted mine yesterday.. Works swimmingly. But the hinge is more worn out than... Well they are just pretty worn out.
    Thanks guys!!

Kind of a rhetorical question, really. I bought a crusty '69 Skylark that had ~45k miles on it, but was pretty wasted on the bottom, even for a California car. The hood hinges were really nice, though, plus I get the extra opening height.
