Hello everyone. A quick wheel question. I just bought Wheel Vintiques for the rear of my Stage 1 from Summit. They are 15x8 with a 4.25 BS. Will they work? I spoke 2 Wheel Vintiques and they said they are the standard steel wheels they sell. I currently run a 15x7 rallye rim with a 275 60 15 Drag Radial. I know from other posts u guys say I need a 4.50 BS. Before I unbox them & send out 2 have powder coat I want 2 make sure they will work. I believe the 15x7 rallyes are not original GM but also Wheel Vintiques with a 4.00 BS. What do U guys think?

Have you actually measured the back spacing? The stock 15 X 7" wheels are about 4 1/4- 4 3/8" B.S. depending on the year of the rim. The 8" rim wants 4 1/2" B.S. That is what mine measure, and I run the MT 275/60R-15 DR with no problems. My guess is the the 4 1/4" B.S. will be fine with that tire. See what kind of outside clearance you have with the rim you are using now. Can you spare the 1/4"?

    with a 275-60-15 you should have a 15x8 with 4.5Bs minimum

I ordered a set of Buick rally's from Vintiques last December. I'm still waiting. 15"-7" with 4" B.S. They have no idea when they'll be making them. I ordered through Jegs so I haven't been charged yet.

I was hoping these would work. I guess I'll have 2 go 2 where the car is stored & take some measurements. There are no rubbing issues now with the 27560's on 7 inch rallye rims

    I'm assuming a 245 60 or 255 60 wouldn"t be a issue on those 8 inch rims though/

I measured the clearance on the outside of the car 2day. 1 inch between drivers side wheel & wheelwell & 1/2 between pass side. I'm leaning towards these rims being returned 2 Summit. What do u guys think? Didn't check bs on existing Rallye Rims though.

Just take one of the wheels off of the car and measure the backspacing to be certain the new wheels will fit. And check the bolt pattern and offset while you're at it.

Well Wheel Vintiques doesn t make a 15x8 steel poverty cap type rim with a 4 3/4 backspace & either does Coker. Both have 4 1/4 BS. Any ideas on where I might find them? I'm assuming a smaller tire would work but I really like the look/stance of the car with the 275 60 Drag Radials. Plus reg tires on this car with a 4spd never ever hook up. EVER!

would a 1970 impala police cruiser or station wagon have 15x8 steel rims?

Not sure but probably 15x7. again not sure but I think they would have a 5x5 bolt pattern. I believe late 70's early 80's full size GM 's had the 5x4 3/4 bolt pattern though.

I've had a lot of sizes on my 1970 convertible. And have had others try the same wheel/tires on other cars with different clearances. These cars were not built to exacting tolerances and vary by as much as 1/4".

That said, with a 15x8 wheel, 4.5" of backspacing centers the wheel in the wheel well. If you got wheels with 4.25" of BS, having a 275/60/15 tire on there should be no problem. I currently run a 325/50R15 tire in my factory wheel wells and they fit......barely but they fit on a 15x10 wheel with 5.625" BS. So the 275 tire has a very similar diameter and is about 2" narrower. That 1/4" difference won't impact them fitting.

Thanks Phil. Larry said the same thing. So with 1 inch of clearance on 1 side a 1/2 on the other side u think these rims will work. All the manufacturers make them with 4.25 BS on these 8" rims. They must work?

Board member Steve, AKA "Underdog350" made a pair of 15 x 8's for my 71 Skylark. Great work.
    Maybe he can help?

I just want to see more pics of this car. What color is on that thing? It looks like that light purple that looks really nice on the cars. Wasn't it a special order Cadillac color or something?

Spoke 2 Summit 2day. very nice. they r going 2 cover the shipping 2 return the rims. It s only $20 a rim for custom backspacing so I'm going with 15x8"s with a 4 3/4 BS. Should look awesome with a 275 60 15 drag radial. And Phil thw Stage 1 is Diplomat Blue and the convertible is painted black with a white convertible top. Pics soon.
