When I shower down on my motor a squealing sound occurs at higher RPM. This sound is a screech similar to, but not, a loose belt. It did it on this motor and the last one. The only shared components are the harmonic balancer and transmission. I installed a shift kit in this tranny. Could this be a band in the tranny? The sound continues for about 1/2 second after I let off the gas. I cannot specify a definite area where it is coming from except the engine compartment of the car. I can get it to make this noise in park but it is most pronounced when running through the gears. Any thoughts?
I don't think it is a air whisltle. It has a definite frictional quality to the noise. I am about 95% sure it is not a belt. The 5% caveat being the possibilty of alternator belt's small amout of contact on water pump pulley. I'm a 1 man show when it comes to this hobby so I can't hang my head out the window to try and identify the noise. My GF would pick me on a mail box if I asked her to help me.
So, you're using different acessories with each motor (ps pump, alt, water pump, starter)??? if so, then I'd venture to say it has to be something in the trans. If you're using the same PS pump & stuff then I'd check those out. I have seen starter gears get stuck out, engaged with the flywheel. could make a noise when comming down like you said.
