As you know this is a 70 only miorror with the tri Shield engraving on the back. Very rare. I saw only one at Flint 100th. This is not the first one of those to bring over $700.

I have one I bought NOS that I may sell with the next 30 days. It has been on a car since Nov 2003, but I bought it NOS . I have a little over $600.00 in it and will need to get that back out. I had an easier time locating some NOS 71 GS grilles than I did this mirror. One of the expensive, Holy Grail, Buick parts.

A set of finned aluminum valve covers with matching oil breathers just went for over $600.00 that fit a Nailhead.

I guess I was fortunate enough to get the one we're putting on my convertible at BG a few years ago.
I was very reluctant to pay $225 back then.
Now it doesn't seem so bad.

I saw that....I never knew those were so rare. Can you imagine how bad it would suck if some new crap with those mirrors that stick out 6" from the door came along side your car and broke the mirror off that you just paid $735 for?:af:

I had that happen to me once. Thank god it was a cheap mirror.

Remember, we all need to stick together somhow on these crazy
prices. Don't always take the bait when someone wants to sell.
I know there will always be someone to go on a feeding frenzie, when buying this stuff. But there are people out there that
try to set us up for spending all this money on these items.
My brother just bought a left and right NOS mirror for his 69 GS
convertible for $200.00 for the pair. If you refuse to be killed by these hunters then maybe there greed will subside and they will get pleasure from just helping their fellow car lovers.
PS ...I have a console shift lever chrome insert for a 70 GS for sale
    starting bid...$400.00. JUST KIDDING!!!!

    Wait a minute!!!!!
My Skylark Custom is all original w/71K miles on it and it just so happens it has the same exact mirror with the Tri-Shield on it. It is in perfect shape! When I posted my earlier comment I said it was crazy for someone to pay that amount for a NOS mirror.
Are you telling me that I could fetch nearly that much for mine?
I know 70 was the only year but I assumed that all 70s came with them. At least the Customs and GSs. Just how rare are they?
    Thanks,
    Mark

Mark, while they were an available option on all 70 GS/Skylarks, very few were ordered with them.
There just aren't that many floating around now either.

I sold one of those mirrors last year on Ebay. I gave $100 for it at Carlisle and it was still in the original box. I never did put it on the car and a few years later I decided to go with the painted sport mirrors. I put it on Ebay with a $200 reserve and a $500 buy it now, not really expecting anyone to pay that much for it. Well, someone did the buy it now within a few hours of me placing the ad. I couldn't believe it. I had no idea they went for that much. I wish I had a few more to sell! Parts for these cars are going out of control. I'm glad I already have most of the parts I need to finish my cars or I wouldn't be able to afford it anymore.

I don't think they are very good looking, certainly not aerodynamic....they fall in the category of the tissue dispenser inside the car. These mirrors are kind of opposite of dechroming a 50's car to get rid of the poorly styled add-on chrome. When Buick styled the 70 GS, they took a minimalist approach to chrome so as to maximize the beautiful lines. No wonder people didn't order them in 1970.

Not pretty or aerodynamic, but I HATE driving a car without both mirrors, especially when I have to back it into a tight space.

I feel the need to, once more, point out something.......

This was a NO RESERVE auction with a $30 starting bid.
The seller had NOTHING to do with the price going through the roof.
He just watched and smiled all the way to the bank.

Everybody likes to complain about sellers getting too much for their parts.... But the sellers aren't setting the prices (in most cases)

    Keep the faith guys.

Yesterday I took receipt of two right hand side NOS mirrors both in boxes with gaskets screws and templetes. One for a 1969 and the other for 1971 A-body. I paid $85.00 and $90.00 respectively for them - yea I can barely wipe the smile off my face. But the point is, their are still enthusiasts out there willing to help one another along. Strangely enough the seller to me sold the left side mirror for $450. to someone else.........
