The pharmacist in the town where I grew up did the same thing, only it was Enterprise.

As to the OP, if there is something that you like to do, do it. The fact that you are on this site says you like cars, perhaps a car project would be something to occupy your time and provide you with enjoyment. In my case I have a Buick-powered Chevy pickup and a model T Ford. They keep me busy, and as we have five acres (soon to be 10) I have plenty to keep me occupied. Frankly, I don't see how anybody who is in reasonable physical condition can be bored. For me, there aren't enough hours in the day.

Just don't end up working harder than you did before you retired. I sold my main business of 27 years to retire early at 57 to Florida. I kept my smaller business for the "something to do". Well, after renovating/remodeling my new place, word got out quickly after people saw it and am now doing reno/remodeling to the point of working 10-12 hours a day to keep up and also trying to keep up with my other business. So decide if you are actually retiring or just doing a job change

Being that you were a teacher and are use to speaking to a class maybe you can look into making videos on subjects of interest to you and post them on YouTube.

There are a lot of people that post videos there that make a good living doing it with the right content that other people are interested in watching.

If you make that your "business" then traveling expenses for your "business" would probably be tax deductible as well as the equipment needed to record your videos and the cost of employee(s)(wife maybe?) to travel with you. But make sure to make a video to post when you do travel incase you get audited.

People that do videos also do merchandising on their channel like selling tee-shirts and such, some of those people also get into selling heath products as well, use your imagination here the sky is the limit.

If you like doing arts and crafts, you can video yourself doing that and sell the crafts from your videos? Make it fun for you(and get paid for it!!), life is short drink better beer!

Thanks guys for the suggestions, keep them flowing. I teach 8th grade science, so there are options out there. For most of my life I have had multiple jobs (5 to be exact) at the same time. Teaching is the main one, I have taught multiple classes for teachers in the summer and on Saturday. I have a small (tiny) welding business, but I don't want to weld full time.

Nailhead, I don't need to work- I want to work. I'm fishing for ideas I never thought of. My retirement check will be almost the same as my current check, why work for free?

I want new challenges. My wife wants to work for 10-15 more years and she will now carry the health insurance. I am a gym bum so maybe becoming a personal trainer.

I retired at 65 from the police with full benefits and a good pension. That was in 2012.
We have universal health care + my benefits so medical care is not a problem.
I love retirement. Every winter since retirement, I have had some project to work on for a few weeks. This past winter, I had no project but i did go to Fla for awhile.
Now I am working on my GS and waiting for the ground to dry up and I can get to work.

There are a number of things you could do. (I'm the same age, but not in a position to be able to retire for a number of years yet) Develop or cultivate a hobby. You could volunteer, find a cause that you like and go to work for it. The experience can be rewarding. Join a club, car club, coin club, whatever, - and help out or get into the running of it. I do that now. I'm also looking to write history books that no one will read once I retire. I sort of do that now with a coin magazine. I also took up watch repair and rebuilding a couple of years ago when Nailheads got to be too heavy. The thing is, I've got so much to do, or on the go, that retiring will mean going to work!

I retired at 63 after working in the steel industry in a management position. Started a consulting business working with engineers at a few different companies designing equipment and helping with projects. I also help my brother run his fabricating and welding business. Estimating jobs and tracking cost.
In my spare time, I teach at the local Community College. I teach welding classes and some of the Agricultural classes. Currently teaching 4 different classes at three different locations. I am considered a part time teacher, teaching a full schedule. Some nights I don’t get home till after 8:00 PM.
I also manage to find a little time to work on my GS and help a few friends work on their cars.
This morning, before my first class, I helped a friend drag a 1928 Model A, old school hot rod out of a barn where it had been for the last 30 years.
I will be 70 in a couple of months and no plans of slowing down. I am having too much fun.

I'm a busy guy and like it like that. Dereck I was thinking of making some U Tube stuff that I have welded for my class. Maybe that would generate business for the welding.

Possibly but I was talking about getting paid from YouTube for posting your videos. YouTube pays people to post videos and the more views you get the more $$ they will share with you for the advertisements they put in those videos.

There are actually people making a living posting YouTube videos from the advertising that YouTube has in the videos there. Of coarse you can choose to not have ads in your videos as well if you don't want your videos to have those speed bumps I call them in your vids? You know, those yellow dashes you see on that line connected to the play button.

As well as getting revenue from ads, people setup PayPal and or Patreon and other links where viewers can donate to your channel. The more viewers the more ad $ and possibility of "tips" from said viewers. If I was a good speaker and more photogenic:eek: I would consider making YouTube videos if for anything to try for some spare $$ for posting videos.

It depends on your wife - if you have one.

If you don't - the decision is yours to make alone.

I took a forced early retirement thanks to an alcoholic spouse who destroyed our lucrative family business.

That - is in the the rear view mirror.
