I believe you can but all the repros I have seen have no map light option.

There are no black repoductions. I had mine resilvered.

I know Groundup Restorations (Chevelle) had a black case repro maplight mirror for sale before in the past. Not sure if they still have it.........

I wasn't thinking about replacing the whole unit, just swapping out the mirror (glass) from the repo to my map light unit.

If the repro does not have the day/night feature the glass is not the same. The original glass is not flat. It is cut into a wedge so you get the day / night feature.

Did just what you are thinking and worked well for me. That repo does have the day night glass so that part is no problem. I looked into resilvering and the price was about 50.00 at the only place in the area that does it. I removed the mirror and gasket as one peice and bonded them to the old mirror frame with a 5minute epoxy. Take the chance to clean all the electrical contacts and replace the bulb while its apart. I had mine resilvered for 35.00 each. Take the mirror out if you have a mirrir shop close by get it done. Clean , repaint as needed

    Thanks for all the replies.

I was quoted $55 to resilver from a shop in Detroit. More than likely the same place Brian got a quote from. Maybe I will give the repro one a try.

Brian, Was it not possible to remove the mirror from the gasket on the repro?

It probably is, but the mirror is adhered to the gasket and I think if you tried to seperate it may pull the silvering off the mirror which puts you right back where you started. The gasket seperatd easily from the housing on the repo I had.
