Hi, I was wondering what`s the best source for Repro Rallye Wheels at the moment? As far as I can judge it, it might have melted down to Wheel Vintique Buick Wheels at the moment, right? They used to have chrome issues a few years back, or so I read, is that still a problem(if it ever was, don`t know firsthand). My Rallies are good driver quality, but going up a notch might require a new set, maybe even 15x8, who knows. Thanks for your opinion. Jens
I have had a Wheel Vintique set for more than 10 years without issue, however the car also does not see snow or rain really for that matter. Purchased a new set for another project recently and they look good as well, but the backlog for the order was ridiculously long - like 7 months. Check to make sure they have them on hand.
https://www.cokertire.com/wheels/muscle.html?brand_item=985&p=5 https://www.wheelvintiques.com/wheels/muscle/buick-rallye.html I've had Wheel Vintiques wheels on my car for many years, BUT, I bought them at least 10-12 years ago. Chrome might have been better then. I can tell you this, IF you store your car where there is any humidity, you will need to stay on top of chrome wheels by waxing them on a regular basis. My garage is heated and there are no huge temperature swings even during winter, so it is dry. My wheels look new.
Hi, thanks for your infos on this subject. Do I get it right, like there`s only one source behind all the vendors left? They are all manufactured by the same company, but distributed differently? Or is that not the case? I`m trying not to expose my car to bad weather no more, just like you, Larry, but then, the occacional shower might happen, and I don`t want those beautiful rims to go bad in a minute... but than again, what else to do? Used wheels? Combined with luck and a bit more expenses for a better set(actually I only really need like 2, the other 2 are quite ok.) 255 60 15 on the 7" wheel, often discussed before, it`s doable, right? Bad influence on the driveability? Thanks Jens
Occasional shower is no problem, I am talking about extended exposure to humidity, like in a pole barn, or free standing garage that is unheated. I don't believe there is only one manufacturer of Buick wheels. I do think the quality of chrome plating has suffered as of late. 255/60R-15 should be no problem at all with stock ride height and good suspension.
Yeah, I heard about that too. But then, as I live in Switrzerland, Europe, I`d have to get them over to the US and back... I`d be better off with a new set. But thanks for your idea. @Larry: Good to know a little splash water won`t spoil them....I would not let them sit exposed to the elements, I have a garage underneath the housing complex, in summer it gets 24° C, winter it`s around 10°C, dry surrounding.
