I was at the Spring Carlisle event this weekend and picked up new rubber seals and felts for my ride. I started to remove the trunk seal, figuring it would be the easiest to do. Well the glue that is holding it in place is still pretty strong even after 35 years. Some of the seal came up, but most of it just riped apart. Is there a trick to getting these rubbers off? Is there a chemical to break down the glue?

    Thanks for any tips,
    Frank

there is no trick, only work. your will need a narrow wood chisel or metal scraper to remove the glue. u could use lacquer thinner as a final cleaner, but be very careful with it as it will remove/damge apint.

    Gerry,

Thanks for the comment, I was afraid that was going to be the answer. I'm worried about scraping or chipping the painted surfaces. The wood chisel is a great suggestion I'll be sure to pick one up.
I went to my local NAPA store and checked with them. He pointed me to a 3M product: General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner, #08984. It comes in both a liquid and areosal form. I bought a quart of the liquid and will give it a try tonight.

By the way, how did the adhesive remover work. I am about to take on the same task.

    Jeff.
