My AM radio speaker is dead, anyone know where I can get one to replace it cheap(new)? Or is it easy to put a different speaker in there?

The factory 4"x10" speakers are 10 ohm impedance. You can use a 4x10 Radio Shack special, just ask for a two ohm power resister while you're there and splice it in line with one of the speaker leads.

Mounting can be a little bit of a challenge. I've mangled the stock wedge mount before to fit around the replacement's much larger magnet assembly.

    Hey 72,
I forgot your "real" name. I've been to your website and seen the pictures of your Skylark. VERY COOL! I also have a ('70) Skylark 4 door, that I'm converting into a GSX. As far as the dash speaker, don't waste your time replacing it with another 4x10. I did the "modified" dash speaker installation, with (2) 4" Door Speakers, and they sound AWESOME! It was pretty easy, it just took some time. I started Saturday, about 8AM. I finished about 3PM. That was modifying the radio into a CD player, too. I then installed 2 6x9's in the rear deck, for 4 speakers total (2 in the dash, 2 in the rear deck). The CD player is only 40 Watts x 4, but with the volume up to 24 (max. is 35), it can be heard up to 1/2 a block, CLEARLY, without distortion! The Dash speakers only cost me $20 (clearance at a local car stereo shop). Look around, you can find them.

That dual front speaker mod sounds like the ticket for me. I've got a CD player hooked up in the glove box and that runs just 2 6x9's in the back dash and my subwoofer in the trunk. I think I'll put the 2 in the front dash and hook up a switch to use them for the original AM or the CD player.
I gotta pull the dash apart soon to put in my factory clock and speedo w/ alert I picked up.
    Thanks - Nick

Secret audio makes a direct replacement that mounts in the same location as the original from speaker, but has two four inch speakers in its place. I installed it in my 70 GS and it is a direct bolt in, no muss no fuss. They have a web site, although I got mine from a dealer I found in Hemmings Motor News. Norman's Classic Auto Radio (727)546-1788. He also sells the hiden system that allows you to keep your stock radio and have am-fm radio that is operated by remote, it also allows you to use a CD player if you chose. So far it all works well.

I have a Sony AM FM CD reciever with 23 watts RMSX4, 2 -3 1/2" speakers mounted in the front stock location with 800 Hz bass blockers, 2- 6X9's in the rear deck. (all speakers are Blaupunkt- super efficient). I put the radio in a bracket I mounted under the front seat. The nice thing about this radio is you can order it with a WIRED remote. I have that hidden in the the center console. The system rocks, is completely hidden, and the stock AM-FM radio is in the dash. It's important to use the bass blockers in the front small speakers, they play alot louder and cleaner if they don't have to reproduce low bass.

I have heard Larry's GS and his Regal's sound systems, and the proof is in the listening.Larry's selection of components has produced very clean powerful sound systems
    Way to go Larry!

    Hey Nick,
If you're a "do it yourselfer", try Tim R's procedure to make your own 2 speaker installation. I did the same installation myself (I thought of it myself, and THEN I found out that others had already done it), but it really does sound GREAT! Don't "buy" one of the "custom 2 speaker assemblies", because they're overpriced, and limited to what speakers that they sell. If you do it yourself, you can be picky about what kind of quality that you want, and go from there. You will definitely notice the difference from just the 6x9's, after you install the 2 dash speakers. Unbelievable difference. Almost true surround sound.
