How are all of you repainting the red, white and blue on our emblems and badging? (interior and exterior). Do I have to use touch up brushes or are there "pens" available that will do the job? Are there certain shades of each color that I should look for? I am not looking for a show car job... just something to make a driver have that "Pop" in detail. Thanks! Tom
I use plastic model paints available in small jars (...Testors) from a hobby shop. It's high gloss enamel, easy to work with, flows out nicely and cleans up easily. I use a small artists brush to apply the paint - just ensure it's well mixed, before you use it on the emblem, and let it dry completely. :TU:
Testor's paint is amazingly resiliant as well. A few years back painted the Grand Am imprint on the steering wheel of said car, and it never wore off.
Which hobby paints? (Re: Repainting Tri-Shield badging) Hi Tom, Rivman, and V-8 Buick fans, Having been also bitten by the model railroad bug (can we say glutton for punishment!! ou, I've also thought about this. Anyone who has tried to paint an HO Scale figure gets a feel for small details!! However, I've wondered how you would match the Buick emblem colors. Has anyone determined if stock paints would be a good match? The one thing that has "ruined a whole model" for me is trying to custom blend a color. Thanks in advance for any pearls of wisdom on this one! :Smarty: Cheers, Edouard :beer
>>I did the same for the hood ornament on my stock '72 hood before I put the GS one and it came out great.
Re: Which hobby paints? (Re: Repainting Tri-Shield badging) Pretty basic Edouard, Gloss Red, Gloss White, and Gloss Blue - don't recall the exact Testor paint numbers, or actual names, but the stock Testor paint colours are a very close match straight from the bottle, no mixing required !! :TU:
Thanks for Tips everyone. I think I'll pick up a few bottles this weekend. I get alot of idle time at work and I just might tinker around with them. Testers Gloss Red, White and Blue.... that sounds easy enough! Thanks again!! Tom
Just remember that gloss enamel paint usually dries a little darker, and take the originals with you for a visual match, assuming they still have traces of the original color left on them. :TU:
I did like all others did here - standard gloss blue, red, white. I didnt use a brush though - used a toothpick. I put my emblem in a vise to keep it level, then dipped the toothpick in the paint...hit the side of the bottle to lose excess. Then I simply touched the emblem in various areas to let it fall off and start flowing. Worked like a champ. I will post a pic of it tomorrow hopefully. I then used clear nail polish but I put it on in too thick a first coat - white pulled up slightly. All in all though, looks good to me. Mark
You can also use the acrylic paint pens sold at Wallmart. They come in fine and medium point. Easy to use and the colors are perfect.
Testors paint is an enamel base, clear nail polish is probably a laquer base, and they are not compatible. That may be why the white lifted ? A clear acrylic finish would be more compatible with the enamel paint. :TU:
I think Testors also sells a "clear coat" sealer for paints, at least I remember that from painting models.
Wow..... Looks like everyone did a great job.I'll be happy if mine turn out half as good! You guys must be very patient!!! Looks like a long process to get them looking that good.
