I would like to know how to remove the window cranks on my 66 sportwagon, Just had my seats recovered and want to get the door panels in to the trim shop. Thanks
I used some thing similar to this http://www.autotoys.com/x/catalog/WINDOW_CRANK_AND_DOOR_CLIP_REMOVER_p_682.html. If you look at the right side of the tool there is a clip shown you need to remove with the bottom end of tool. Pretty basic stuff. Any automotive place should have this tool. On mine I simply inserted the tool from the arm side in the middle of the crank and plastic washer and pulled the arms off. The clips may be on the opposite way if you seem to have problems. Simply use the tool lining it up with the crank arm from the opposite direction. Ray
someone on the board posted once that slipping a shop towel behind the crank and pulling it back and forth around a couple times worked..... i tried it and it worked excellent, far better than any of my tools. i pitched th tools. .... :bglasses:
I use a paper clip. Just straighten it out, then take the end, 1/16" bend at 90. you just need to hook the clip and pull it toward you. Works every time. Rich
I use a smilar method except I use a finishing nail with the tip bent 90 degrees (or a little more) and lock it in needle nose vice grips. Slightly push the door panel in, slip in the nail parallel to the panel, then turn it under the clip, pull and the clip pops right off. Works better than any of the tools I've ever bought, plus you don't have to worry about losing it, just make another :beer
