On a '71 what is the proper way to remove the trim around the vinyl. The trim is in great shape and don't want to deform it. Have searched but there doesn't seem to be a complete answer. Thanks!
Dont have any first hand knowledge on the A body cars but on the big cars most of the trim snaps off nylon clips. The 2 pieces that go around the corners of the back are held on by 2 screws / nuts from inside the trunk.
Did some youtube research and careful analysis and figured it out. Lol. Roof under vinyl top in pretty good shape. On fence if to go back to vinyl or to keep trim and do two tone paint.
Keep vinyl top . It's a unique feature of the cars of that area. You can easily seal it and apply the vinyl. I did it all myself it's no rocket science
Very carefully... First, get in the trunk and remove the thead cutting nuts from the pot metal corner pieces.. once those are out, then the rear and side trims just snap off. Use a flat stiff wide blade (like a sturdy putty knife/scraper) so you don't damage the chrome. Keep the trim clips, "correct" new ones often are not.. so if they are not damaged, I always use the original ones when I can. JW
Aren't there also clips where the seams are on the back where the trunk filler is? I seem to remember there are 2 1 1/2 long x3/4 wide clips there..
IIRC, on my ‘71 the die cast back corner pieces that are held on with speed nuts, the stainless molding below the rear glass and the quarter stainless trim kinda hook over the corner die cast molding to secure the ends of the stainless molding
Thanks for replies. Wife and I like the look of the vinyl. Not sure if top for 4dr is available. Had a '73 Riv and '95 Fleetwood and both had vinyl tops.
