So I'm getting ready to haul my 64 Skylark 2dr Cpe to the paint booth but I need to remove the chrome roof trim, the trim around the windows, the drip rails etc etc. I've already damaged the front trim pieces on the roof (took my time and was very patient but the trim is soft and easy to crease). Does anyone have a trick for removing the trim without damaging it? Also, is there a special tool to do it or is this impossible and I need to face the fact that I need to buy all new trim? Thanks for any help that can be provided.

    Conner,
I have had the best luck removing the Drip Rail Trim using a old time Bottle Opener Rounded End wrapped with a rag so as to not damage the trim. This is by no means a perfect way to do it but I have found it much better than anything else I have tried.
    Good Luck,

Taking it off is fairly easy, once you get part of it started - just take your time and don't force it, as it bends easily.
The hardest part is putting it back on, in proper position with all that shiny new paint ! I used a little wheel bearing grease on the bottom of the drip rail to help it slide on easier. :TU:

Put some masking tape on the old bottle opener and then also place an old rag or thin towell between the molding anf the tool. Do not torque too much when it starts coming off, just continue to move the opener over and it will come off nice and easy.

go to an Auto body supply store..there are many different types of molding release tools...that can spread the pressure under the molding

A little trick to make reinstallation easier is after you prime the area where the molding goes , tape it up and do not paint that area . That helps keep down the thickness and eases install .
