removing body mount bolt from '97 chevy pickup

    I havea 1997 Chevy silverado with a rotten side step bar. it is bolted into the body mount bolts on the sides of the cab. how do i unbolt these bolts? are they self tapping or are there nuts on the inside of the cab that i have to find.the dealer book does not explain it to me.
