I need to remove the "covers" (What's the correct name?) that go over the pillars on the outside to the left and right of the windshield. I've only located 5 screws holding each on. Two screws tucked below the fender, and three more screws in the windshield molding. Before I try to really yank these suckers out and do some damage, I need to know if there are other fasteners hidden somewhere.

The first picture shows the bottom-two screws in the windshield molding (top-most screw not shown.) The next picture shows the two screws tucked under the fender.

What's the best way to remove these intact so I can reinstall them later?

Dave there are 2 or 3 screws on the under side where the vent window is. You must pull the SS that the weather strip goes in and under that is the screws.I have taken these off on 65/7 and I pry on the under side by the vent window and kinda roll them off. I can get one out from a 66 and check the screw holes if you need me to. I see you are looking for a lower window lip. There was a post less than a month ago on the part and the vendor. This is just the lip area not the dash or cowel area. I have a nice three piece part but is is off a 66 not sure if it is the same. Thanks Bill.

Hi Bill. If I'm understanding you right, it sounds as if it is possible for me to get to those screws without tearing the weatherstripping, but I may have to break the adhesive holding it in at certain points. Is that correct? The weatherstripping along the door-frame is only about 5-10 years old and still in good shape, so I'm thinking about carefully removing it by picking away at the adhesive with a tiny blade and peeling the weaterstrip back several feet.

I think I saw the post you were referring to. It was a good one, but I decided to start a fresh thread on the lip area so as not to hijack the original author's thread. I appreciate your offer on the '66 part, but will probably try ordering a new piece instead. I was warned that OPGI doesn't know Buicks, but may have to try them out anyway unless I hear of better body-panel vendors first.

Not sure about the weatherstrip. The one I took off the 66 was in bad shape. I looked at my 65 GS and it is the original weatherstrip and it looks one piece attached to the roof rail weatherstrip. If you take it off at the lower end bu the upper door hinge and peal it back and let it hang you may be able to take the SS chrome piece off then get to the screws that hold the cover on. Thanks Bill.

    Got the pillar "cover" off...

After pealing back the weatherstripping and removing the trim, I spotted the three screws you mentioned. The A-pillar "cover" is now off.

    What the he!!?

There are two sets of mounting holes for the bottom-most screws (tucked under the fender). It looks like a proper alignment could not be made, so someone drilled and tapped a second set of holes. What looks like the intended (and unused) holes appear to be stripped and now filled with rust.

My Dad is the only person who has worked on this car's body before me and knows the car's history inside and out since it was bought by my great-grandfather (the original owner) in '65. He's never seen this before.

How could those extra holes have been put there without his knowing? Could this have been done on the assembly line?
