remove rust from master cylinder

my master cylinder is pretty new , and its starting to get rust on it .can some one tell me how i should remove the rust

 

If it is in your MC then it is likely coming from the internal surfaces of your lines. Older brake fluid is hygroscopic and it will rust the steel lines internally. If you mean in the MC, as opposed to the exterior, changing the lines and wheel cylinders and hoses is the fix.

 

Huh??? He means Outside the MC.

I would try a wire brush wheel on a drill. Make sure the cap isn't leaking or else the rust will come back.

Wd 40 and a light scuff pad used for cleaning dishes!Scrub lightly till gone.

 

And paint it when you're done so it doesn't happen again. Bare cast iron rusts very quickly.

 

i thoroughly cleaned the replacement (raybestos) mc that i installed on my gs several years ago and then clearcoated it. seems to inhibit rusting.

 

Concrete etcher works miracles, the key point is leaving the area wet for periods of time, parts that can be dipped in a bucket are the easiest, parts that are hanging i ussually use a bag to catch all the water, i get the sprayer and mix 1/4 to 3/4 water on a sprayer and spray constantly for about 10 minutes, then wipe clean with a rag, key here is to clean it right away, instructions call for complete cleaning with water after its been cleaned but i usually just dry it with a dry cloth and make sure it is very very dry. there is also that green rust inhibitor which is the same thing as the concrete etcher. i love this stuff makes a rusty old part looking like new and i put my word on it, absolutely love it:bglasses:

A member mentioned white vinegar to me. Maybe if it doesn't take all the rust off it will loosen it enough to scrub off after.

 

There is a green colored rust killer on the mkt that is called ''the right stuff'' ..... i buy it at advance.......

 

Sorry if I'm repeating anyone's answer. Just use Eastwood's cast iron gray to paint it, and it will look great for a long time. John B.

If you can take it off the car, bead blasting it then painting it is the best way to clean the rust off. I take apart and bead blast them all before installing them--the paint the rebuilders put on them is no good, so I blast it all off and put good paint on it like the Eastwood paint in the previous post.

 

i like evaporust.

 

I clear mine leaving it naturally bare but covered with gloss clear coat. Looks very nice.

 

i agree with you brad. put them side by side and the cleared ones look a little more "real" or somethin.

 

Good shot of mine on the photobucket site. Has been sealed under clear for 7 years now. Still looks good.
