Hi, On the '67 GS 400 I picked up recently, the original carb was long gone and in it's place was a Holley remanufactured quadrajet. The Holley parts tag was still on it, "64-7032". There wasn't the ID # posted on the driver's rear secondary housing but rather on the middle rear of the housing, in a circular pattern, #7033744. I e-mailed their tech support to see what the cfm rating was. Their reply was 700 cfm. Does anyone have experience with them? Any difference between the regular run of the mill quadrajets? Good, bad, indifferent? Thanks,
I have one on my car. Bought through O'Reilly Auto Parts. On the plus side I asked for a 71 big block carb, and that's what I got. However, going by the Holley part numbers, it was just luck; they would have sold a small block carb in the same box. On the downside, it had horrible throttle response. I bit the bullet and opened it up. They had used an early power piston without the APT peg sticking out the bottom, so it was seating way too deep in the hole. Replaced it with a correct power piston and quite happy with it now. So, overall I think it's not a good sign that they could make that kind of mistake, but since I was able to correct it I'm happy.
Nicholas - thanks for the info. I really didn't know they even made a reman carb until seeing the parts tag. have a great holiday season!
carb Hub, You got the best carb. :Brow: You can do more with a holley than any other, there are parts available and if you do what Holley says it will really perform. p It will do better than any other carb on the market that is reasonably priced. I just purchased a 1050 cfm 3bbl to go on my nail head.
Doc What Hub has isn't a "holley" in the traditional sense. It is a Rochester Quadrajet remaunfactured by Holley. Although he does have the best carb!!! (IMHO) Hub Don't know why it has no number in the correct spot on the driver's side rear. Mine had the original number still there. Maybe at some point they began machining off the factory numbers, to avoid poeple being upset about not getting the exact carb for their application. By the layer of dust on the box from mine, I'd guess it had sat on a shelf for quite some time before I got it. The number in the circle on the back is a casting number. Lastly, it is a 750 cfm (unless it's an 800...)
Just an FYI My Holley reman 7041540 (71 800cfm) was Holley number 64-7036. O'Reilley no longer shows this as a good number (Guess I was just in time!!!)
all the Buick 67 quadrajets i have seen dont have the usual stamping on the drivers side. the carb number is stamped on a round disc on the drivers side towards the front of the carb.
Thanks Bob, Good info to know. Trying to find a '67 numbered carb for the 400's is like looking for hens teeth! Seems to be more 430ci numbered carbs from what I've seen. This reman has the same circular recess but without the light metal insert that your pic showed. Thanks -
I need to stop trying to answer questions about '67s on here. They are just too wierd :eek2: --OK, different
