There was a thread a while back on this subject but I can't find it. Anyway, what is a good source for a stock rebuilt 455? I need to replace the borrowed engine in my truck and really don't have the time to rebuild one myself.

    hey alan.
i just got a reman engine in about two weeks ago (you might have actually read about it from me) from this site:

    http://www.wiegand-liners.com/buick-engines.html

i am really happy with the way it came out. you can get short or long and there are performance options available. mine cost about 2500 total with cam and timing chain upgrade including shipping. their warranty is pretty nice and the best part is that i ordered the engine and it was in my garage in under a month. the people seemed real nice too!
    good luck ~charlie

holy crap, why is that so cheap, :eek2: . a rebuildable engine costs at least 500 around here. they are saying i can get a 70 455 for 1500 bucks with a warranty.

any opinions, on using this for a daily driver that sees limited track use?

Does either place ship the engine with the front cover?

    Ouch! Oh well.

How can they warranty an engine that's sold without an oil pump? :Do No:

Still seems like a good way to go, though.

I subscribe to "Engine Builder" magazine, and I read it every month. Interesting stuff in there.

I've noticed that there are a couple of huge companies that sell warranty policies for smaller rebuild shops. If you see several shops that have the same warranty terms, I would guess that it is because they are all using the same underwriter.

I always thought that the best warranty was the one you never needed.

I dont think they are trying to pull the wool over anyones eyes... read the copyright at the bottom of the page. Many companies have several different websites with different names, and there are also distributors for certain things.

"Copyright: All database of motors, engines and cylinder heads belong to Rebuilt Auto & Marine Engines. Terms & Conditions
    Phone: 866-265-5591

Thats whats on the bottom of both http://www.wiegand-liners.com/

    and

    http://www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com/

Doing some research it looks like weigand liners specializes in all industrial fields, particularly the distribution and installation of dump truck liners. They probably get their reman engines from Rebuilt Auto & Marine Engines.

It may be that they purchase their engines from Rebuilt Auto and Marine. It just really bugged me that both companies used the same about us page claiming to have the same employees, listing them by name and time on job.

Guys's look at the total price of one of these. 1575 for the engine, 175 for the core and probably 200 for shipping. You're looking at $1,950 for the engine. I'll bet if you go to you're local engine builder and ask what he would charge for the same thing it will be around $2,000 and if something goes wrong he's a lot closer.

I would think parts and labor locally would be at least 4K. Are you saying parts and labor for 2k?

If you supply the parts it will save you some cash because the machine shop will mark the parts up when they sell it to you. I bought my kit from Maddog racing www.fastengineparts.com Harris was the guy's name, all the parts were top quality name brand. Clint
