    hi all,

sorry if I'm posting in a wrong place but i searched the forum and couldn't find either the answers or a better directory)

I'm registering my 72 skylark here in georgia(europe)
the mia (ministry of inner affairs) rep that examined the car said the vin code on a windshield is not enough to verify the vehicle's assembly date engine etc and therefore for registration.
he started looking for modern car usual places but couldn't find anything.
is there vin code in any other place or anything else that could help them identify the car specs?
other wise I'll have to go to national forensics bureau to get a proof that vin code hasn't been changed and the car is indeed a 72 5.7 skylark. and they charge pretty much))

It’s commonly available online, will the government accept it? If not the factory service manual should have it, too. Also, the car’s trim tag will narrow the build date down to the week built; it should have a letter and number in a lower corner-the number is the month and the letter (a,b,c,d,e) is the week of that month. Production would have run from late summer 1971 until midsumner 1972, so if your code number is 08, 09, 10, 11, or 12 then it was built in 1971 but meets all federal requirements for 1972 so it’s assigned a ‘72 ‘year’.

    Good luck!

hi all again and thanks for your time and attention.
I read in original owners manual in specifications section that vin code is located in the windshield and also on the right front side of the cylinder block. is that true? and where exactly is that?
because the reason they are sending me to this bureau is that the vin code on windshield alone isn't enough evidence for them ("it could be changed") so if i could show them another place with the same vin code together with the one in windshield and the body tag i think i would convince them and avoid the bureau.

    A final update)
Hi all and thanks again for following my thread

I finally registered the car but still couldn't avoid the forensics bureau cause no one from the ministry was professional or man enough to take the responsibility and document the obvious. so i had to order two examinations from the bureau: one to prove that the vin code hasn't been removed or otherwise manipulated and second to determine technical specs of the vehicles which they did with the help of web links i sent them that i got from you in this thread earlier)))
To sum it up in numbers registration with all the procedures costed 6000 usd which is more than what my brother paid for the car and registration in LA)
But I'm still happy it's finaly done and past.
Now I can concentrate on preparing the car for the paint job and paint it. Btw I'm not sure about the color and i would appreciate your recommendations and links that could help.

    Thanks again
