I'm sure this has been addressed before but I couldn't find it after a quick search so I hope someone can help me out. I've just swapped a Buick 350 into an '87 Regal that used to have a 3.8 V6. I've got the car running now with alot of extra wiring doing nothing, all coming from the passenger side of the firewall. Can I just remove the computer from behind the kick panel and remove/cut/rip the wires out?? Do any of the wires need to be kept? I removed the A/C but the heater is staying, this is a daily driver. Will removing the computer get rid of the "service engine soon" light? Thanks, Ken
Ken, You can remove all that wiring. I did. If you look up high inside on the pass side toeboard, you'll see were its coming in to the computer. Just take the bulb out of the check engine light. I can't remember if I cut any wires since it was three years ago. But It was all real obvious. So will the stick be swapped in next? I am kinda stuck with 350s now. Mine died and I could not afford to start a BBB for it, so I've begun another small block. Keep us posted on your Regal. How about some pics?? :TU:
Thanks Dan, I'll start pulling the wires out tonight. I just wanted to be sure before I removed them. Over the summer I swapped in a 3.08 posi, I think it will be a fun car. The stick conversion is on hold for now. I still want to do it but I don't have alot of time and it was easier for now to just put the good TH350 I had in there. I have everything I need to do it except the clutch and flywheel. The V6 started making noises it shouldn't so I wanted to get it back to daily driver status as soon as possible. The V10 in the truck only gets about 11mpg with the 4.30 gears in it. When I get chance I'll take some pictures and post them. What happened to your 350? What are your plans for the new motor? Ken
Ken, Sounds like your Regal is sweet. My 350 started crapping out after a street race in April. The heads and bottom were all stock, so who knows how long stuff like that will last. I figure I broke a ring. It got worse all summer, but I pushed it anyway. It finally started smoking like 007 and constantly fouling #6. O well, I wasn't gonna sissy it. Me and my brother are building a BBB for a Chevy truck and the prices of stuff made me realize that I simply can't afford all new stuff to go Big Block. So I've had a tanked 350 block in the basement with good bores. I figure with that as a start, I can rebuild a 350 dirt cheap. So thats the plan for now. Better 350 for spring, but no killer like I dream of. Not yet. Have fun with the Regal!
