I would like to know from somebody in here if after I broke one rod bolt and am replacing old ARP rod bolts with new ARP rod bolts if it's absolutely necessary to have the rods reconditioned. I was just going to tap out the old ones and tap in the new ones. I wanted to do this today (Saturday 1/23) so if any of you have some good advice, please let me know at your earliest convenience or e-mail me at bolter@aloha.net
    or call me at (808)456-8190
    Thanks & Aloha,

as a General rule of thumb, if the bolts come out, the rods need to be re-conditioned. you can try to tap in the new bolt, but you'll have to see how out of round the rod is which requires some tools you probably dont have. your gonna have to get it checked at the very least. the chances of it being round are slim. were talking a thousandth of an inch and your done. Why take the chance, get it checked out. :Smarty:

ARP bolts go in and come out MUCH harder than the factory bolts!!

One thing to keep an eye on with ARP stuff going in...those bolts have a radius under the head of the bolt. You MUST chamfer the rod bolt hole before installing the ARP bolts!!!:Smarty: :TU: If you don't do this, you can break the head of the bolt off. :Dou:

If old ARP's were in there, the chamfer 'should' be there already - check to be sure!! :TU:

**Consider it a MUST to resize the big end after installing the ARP's!! Even stockers will change things a little. Keep in mind, there is generally, only half a thousandths (.0005") from the low to high tolerances when getting the rods recon'd.

I've seen rods almost get ruined by spreading, after taking the ARP bolts out!!:eek2:
