Can some one suggest a place to purchase a modified stall SP converter. I see PAE and Poston sells them but I don't see any feedback about them.

    Help

I got one from Poston (which I think was made by PAE) and it did not stall high enough (should have been 4000 on hi). I used an A1 convertor and it worked great. Poston was very nice and refunded all my money.

Tim, does Trishield performance actually build the convertors or are they a middle man\reseller?

Our VP Converters are build under an exclusive contract with a Major Converter Re-manufacturer, and are the only furnace brazed units on the market.

I believe very strongly that these 12 and 13" units have their limitations as to what they can stall at, and remain efficient, and behind a healthy big block in the typical GS, that's about 3200 for the 12" unit, and about 2600 for the 13" one.

That's plenty of stall speed for 90% of the street driven VP transmission equipped GS's out there.

Mike, for a race car, there is no way that a good small diameter race converter is not what your after.

Recently, I sold one of our 9.5 inch race units to a guy who was getting tired of pulling the trans out of his car, because his VP converter kept failing. It was not one of our units.

We have Never had one fail.

He called me looking for a VP conveter, but after a discussion about his combo, I recommended one of our 9.5" units, and his feed back was this simple (I never knew my motor was so smooth!)

Currently I am out of stock on the cores, we are working to secure more. We went thru the 4 55 gallon drums of them that we had when we started our program with them 3 years ago, mostly replacing our competitors product.

I have one of Tri Shields 12" VP converters. I can't say enough good things about it. When driving around town, I leave it in low stall. The motor will easily idle at 750 in gear, and I can spin the tires without even getting into the secondarys, in low stall. I got a 1.84 60' time recently with Mickey Thompson ET Street Drag Radials that were overinflated, and I had got up on the converter to 2000 RPM, before I punched it. The converter is very efficient, it will break street tires loose at 2600 RPM in high stall, and 1500 RPM in low stall.

I have a 13" convertor from TriShield, and also have to say it has been fabulous. On a 150HP shot of nitrous I have about 625HP (I'll be stepping that up next year I hope) and so far its held up fine. My car is a heavy (4200#) daily driver with 2.56 gears, and it works great as part of that combination. I can't imagine an application that abuses these convertors much harder! Nice tight low-stall, and the engine flashes up to its peak HP range nicely at the track in high-stall.

I have had 2 of the 4000 high-stall units. They are a compromise at best. In a high-stall launch it feels like it is running low on trans fluid or the brakes are dragging. Yes, I once thought I could have my cake and eat it too.

Unless you are driving a car that absolutely HAS to be driven on the highway but needs higher than the 3200 RPM unit, then would suggest getting a fixed pitch. My 494 powered Olds was like a different car when I replaced the VP with an ATI 9" converter.

    Looks

Looks like I need to call Jim. I have 3 of the larger cores so I could send one to rebuild.

    Thanks to all who answered.

I'm running a PAE unit in my car and have been for the last 1 1/2 years. It's been absolutly great to date. Not one issue with it and I couldn't be happier with it or the price I paid for the trans and converter.

PAE was willing to back up the Trans as well fully knowing I was going to be putting it to good use........ That says ALOT right there.
