Has any one tried to wire there receiver to shut off when the door is opened instead of when the key is turned off? The new GM car and light trucks are wired this way and I o No: would like my older GM car work that way, has anyone did this one? AL.
Little creativity... Seems like a little creative wire work with a relay that energizes then drops out when the dome circuit comes to life... Run it as a parallel circuit with the regular power so that every time you turn on the dome light it doesn't kill your radio. Shouldn't cost you more than about $10. regards
Ken is going to fill in the details on doing this and one of the reasons I like this option is sometime (being a carbureted engine) it don't start up on the first try and I don't like the idea of the receiver doing a on/off cycle every time I try to start the engine the first time. This set up would keep the reciever on until I open the door, AL.
after installing the "retained power accessory" circuit, you may find that your radio/processors/amps still cycle off and on while starting your car due to the drop in voltage while the starter is engaged. it best to turn your radio off before shutting the car off and turning back on after the car has started successfully. amplifiers hate it when starters are crankin  . sometimes large sub amps can shorten a woofers life from the fluctuation.
Yuk, thanks for the reply. So far the Alpine reciever does something with the timing of the amplifier (doesn't "pop" on or off like the Alpine CDA-D855)(I now have a Alpine CDA-7878). I have deceided to go with 2 batteries instead of a cap or a yellow top Optima. AL.
Yuk, Ken posted.......There was a time that I probably could have figured this out but I sure can't see a way of making it work without complications... Is this a big deal to do? Do you have any ideas on this? Thanks AL
