Rob,,,, I am working on that,,,,, it took an act of congress for me to do that one....I am learning how to do that.... turns out the program to do that was in my computer all along... and my daughter is working with me on it.....
Is that your mod or did the car come with that? Looks pretty natural and the tubing run is short. Where are you getting the cold air from? Hard to tell from the pic. Scott
Scott,,,, I built it myself,,,,, it pulls air from the windshield wiper chamber.... I tried to make it look like factory as much as possible....
Rob,,, go to 65GS.com/forums/how to's...... there is a better pic there.... not as hard to post them there.....
Re: Rebuilt ''cold air'' air cleaner set up.....with a link. Hey Doc, here's the link for Rob. http://65gs.com/board/index.php/topic,747.0.html
Thanks Tom Found it, but had to register to actually watch the photos; no problem...another Buick forum has been added to 'my favorites'
and a nice solution for cold air; since LPG, which 2 of my 455's are using, likes cool air this is a solution I really have to consider.
Doc, That is pretty neat! What did you use for the plenum attached to the air cleaner body? It looks like it was factory made like that. I really like custom work. :TU:
Good to see some of your handywork posted for all to see! And when you figure out how to resize, I'd like to see pictures of the Holley/QJet base conversion....
Rhett,,, if I can find your email address again, I will send them to you.....I made about 20 pics of that conversion..... Briz,,,, i went down to the hardware store and picked up a alluminum drier hose, wall connecter, clamp, a joint of 6'' wood stove pipe, and a 4'' rubber plumbing connector with clamps.... and that is what I used.... I squeezed the stove pipe down to 4'' and cut/fitted the air cleaner to the pipe and then welded it in..... On the inside, I cut the flange pan out from a old qjet air cleaner that I had , cut the locator tabs off of it, then I cut the small carter flange pan out of the pancake unit and welded the bigger one in... spacing it the same distance from the carb flange.... when I got every thing welded up, I filled the highs and lows with body filler and block sanded it and rattle can sprayed it.... Andy,,, the WW chamber is a high pressure area allright,,, so there is a very little pressure gain... the main benifit is the cold air,,,, the pressure or ram effect only comes in at 180 + mph.....
Well,,,,the entrance to the duct is tucked back up under the edge of the ww chamber opening and is on a vertical plane... so very little water, if any, will get into the duct its self,,,and if any small amount did get in ,, the air moving thru the air cleaner would evaporate it out....plus the duct probably would leak water out due to its rolled and pleated construction.....besides,, I dont take my baby out in the rain.... But to solve that problem , all you would have to do is drill a small drain hole.....
