Rebuilding vs. cleaning head

Has anyone had any luck with just tearing down heads and then reinstalling? I got a misfire that goes away with a container of Seafoam(3/4 into the crankcase and the rest down the carb until she stalls) for a few months and then it returns. I add another 1/2 container of Sea Foam and away we go again.

I did have heads off last season to extract broken exhaust bolts and I do remember a few of the valves and ports looking crapped up...but car wasn't complaining at that time. Money was an issue too, so I wasn't able to redo the heads professionally.

That being said...My thought is to tear down heads, send them to machine shop to be hot tanked, and then replace what looks distressed, make sure things move smoothly and not bind, take the valves to a soft wire wheel on the bench grinder to zip off all the deposits, put it together and reinstall. Currently, the engine does not smoke or burn any excessive oil. Spark plugs are very healthy looking and never look oiled/carboned up when I remove them before the sea foam(I always remove a few to make sure I'm not experiencing bad valves or other issues before sea foam gets chance to wash evidence away).

    Thoughts??
